Rosenior has revealed he is tailoring his tactics for the short term of this season

🚨 Rosenior has revealed he is tailoring his tactics for the short term of this season, hinting we may see his true idea of coaching next season :

“Arsenal are a very physical, high pressing, high energy team. I want us to be high pressing and high energy as well but you can’t solve that in a short space of time. Hopefully that comes over months, years”

“ It’s OK in your mind to say, “I want to play this way”. But you have to tailor that to the players, and their experiences, and where they are at this stage of the season”

“You can't come in and completely change their training schedule and what they are used to, because they will get injured. This is a longer term thing for me to address..”

“At the moment, my focus, and the way we work, is game by game, what's best for these players to win. That’s how it's going to be for the rest of the season.’

CHELSEA ANTICIPATES CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUND OF 16 DRAW: POTENTIAL MATCHUPS AGAINST NEWCASTLE UNITED OR PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN

Chelsea Football Club is gearing up for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 draw, set to take place tomorrow in Nyon, Switzerland, where the Blues will be drawn against either Premier League rivals Newcastle United or reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain.**

Having secured a top-eight finish in the league phase, Chelsea earned a seeded spot, bypassing the play-off round and positioning themselves to face one of the winners from the knockout play-offs: PSG versus Monaco or Newcastle against Qarabag. Newcastle advanced with a commanding 9-3 aggregate victory over Qarabag, while PSG progressed after a tense 4-3 aggregate win over Monaco, highlighted by a 2-2 draw in the second leg at Parc des Princes.

A matchup against Newcastle would mark an all-English clash in the knockout stages, adding domestic rivalry to the European spotlight, while facing PSG could reignite memories of Chelsea's triumph over the Parisians in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final. The draw, scheduled for 11am UK time on February 27, 2026, will also outline potential paths to the quarter-finals and semi-finals.

Head Coach Liam Rosenior commented on the upcoming draw: "We're excited for whatever comes our way. Both Newcastle and PSG are formidable opponents with rich histories in the competition. Our focus remains on performing at our best in every match as we aim to progress deep into the tournament."

Chelsea's strong league phase performance has set the stage for an intriguing knockout campaign, with the Round of 16 ties slated for March 10/11 and 17/18, 2026. The club looks forward to the challenge and will provide further updates following the draw.

LUIS ENRIQUE COMMENTS ON POTENTIAL CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUND OF 16 MATCHUP AGAINST CHELSEA

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has shared his thoughts on the upcoming UEFA Champions League Round of 16 draw, expressing a preference for facing Chelsea over his former club Barcelona, while acknowledging the challenge posed by both teams.**

Following PSG's qualification to the knockout stages, Enrique addressed the possibility of drawing either Chelsea or Barcelona in an interview with Movistar. "I've been asked whether I'd rather face FC Barcelona or Chelsea F.C.… and honestly, I think Chelsea would be the better option for us right now," he said. Elaborating on his reasoning, Enrique noted, "Barcelona are playing with a lot of confidence, a lot of rhythm. In the Champions League, you have to be smart. If I can choose, I’d choose Chelsea."

Despite his preference, Enrique emphasized PSG's readiness for any opponent: "We are ready to play against any team. Barcelona or Chelsea, it's going to be great." He further described both clubs as formidable, stating, "Neither will be easy. Since it doesn’t depend on me, I’ll adapt to whatever comes. They are two incredible teams."

Reflecting on the emotional aspect of potentially returning to Barcelona, where he enjoyed success as both a player and manager, Enrique added, "Emotionally Barca is a very special team for me." He concluded, "Whether it's Camp Nou or Chelsea, none is easy. I will adapt to whatever comes."

Chelsea Head Coach Liam Rosenior responded to Enrique's remarks: "Luis Enrique is a world-class manager, and his comments reflect the respect between top clubs in Europe. We're prepared for whatever the draw brings and look forward to the challenge in the Champions League."

The UEFA Champions League Round of 16 draw is scheduled for later this week, with Chelsea positioned as a potential opponent for PSG following the group stage outcomes. Chelsea remains focused on their domestic and European campaigns, aiming to progress deep into the tournament.

FORMER HEAD COACH ENZO MARESCA SHARES POSITIVE REFLECTIONS ON CHELSEA TENURE IN RECENT INTERVIEW

Chelsea Football Club acknowledges the recent comments made by former head coach Enzo Maresca in an interview, where he reflected fondly on his time at Stamford Bridge and the achievements during his tenure.**

Maresca, who led Chelsea from June 2024 until his departure earlier this season, spoke candidly about his experiences. "To be honest my time at Chelsea was great, it was a beautiful start you know? I love everything about Chelsea," he stated. He highlighted the unexpected nature of his appointment: "When I was contacted about the job, I didn't know it was going to be possible for me to be the selected one, because there was umm Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann on the lists of the managers they were looking for. So lucky I got appointed."

The Italian coach also praised the successes during his first year: "I must say I love my first one year at the club because we won two major trophies". Under Maresca's guidance, Chelsea secured the UEFA Conference League and returned to the UEFA Champions League, marking a period of notable progress for the squad.

However, Maresca expressed disappointment over the circumstances leading to his exit: "I thought I was going to be there for a long time, but unfortunately that is no more. When you don't feel supported at your job, it's better to quit and find a new challenge". He concluded by hinting at future plans: "For now I'm just taking some time to rest and refresh on my last job before I fully take over the new one which I'm sorry, won't say to you now. But you'll see me soon."

Current Head Coach Liam Rosenior responded to Maresca's remarks: "Enzo did a tremendous job laying foundations for our current success. We wish him all the best in his next chapter and appreciate his contributions to Chelsea."

The club remains focused on the ongoing 2025/26 season, building on the momentum established under previous leadership while pursuing objectives in the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and domestic cups.

CHELSEA FC CELEBRATES LEVI COLWILL'S 23RD BIRTHDAY AND REFLECTS ON HIS OUTSTANDING CAREER JOURNEY

Chelsea Football Club extends warm birthday wishes to defender Levi Colwill as he turns 23 today, February 26, 2026. The Southampton-born centre-back, a product of the club's esteemed academy, continues to embody the spirit of perseverance and talent that defines Chelsea.**

Born Levi Lamar Samuels Colwill on February 26, 2003, in Southampton, England, Colwill joined Chelsea at under-nine level through the development centre programme after a brief stint with Sunday League side City Central, where he played alongside future Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala. Standing at 1.87m (6ft 2in), the left-footed defender signed his first professional contract with the Blues on his 17th birthday in February 2020, marking the beginning of a promising senior career.

Colwill's development included successful loan spells that honed his skills. In the 2021/22 season, he featured 31 times for Huddersfield Town in the Championship, scoring twice and helping the team reach the play-off final. The following year, a loan to Brighton & Hove Albion saw him make 17 Premier League appearances, gaining valuable top-flight experience under Roberto De Zerbi.

Returning to Chelsea, Colwill made his competitive debut on August 13, 2023, and has since accumulated 58 appearances for the first team, scoring three goals. His versatility as a centre-back or left-back has made him a key asset, earning him a new six-year contract in August 2023, with an option for an additional year, extending potentially to 2030. Internationally, Colwill has represented England at various youth levels before progressing to the senior national team, showcasing his potential on the global stage.

Currently recovering from a cruciate ligament injury sustained in pre-season, Colwill is making steady progress in his rehabilitation at Cobham, with the club prioritizing his long-term fitness. Head Coach Liam Rosenior commented: "Levi is a tremendous talent and a true professional. On his birthday, we celebrate not just his achievements but his dedication to Chelsea. We're excited for his return and continued contributions."

The entire Chelsea family wishes Levi a happy birthday and looks forward to many more milestones in his Blues career.

This is the first time in Champions League history that six clubs from the same nation have reached the round of 16 under the competition’s expanded format. The Premier League’s remarkable success underscores the depth, quality, and competitiveness of English football, with teams from the division occupying six of the eight direct qualification spots from the league phase top eight, plus additional progression via the play-offs.

Newcastle United completed the English contingent by overcoming their play-off challenge, ensuring an all-Premier League presence that represents nearly 40% of the round of 16 field.

John Obi Mikel on Chelsea recent performance

🗣️  John Obi Mikel: "We had Enzo Maresca. I've said it, I think it was a massive mistake to sack him.

I mean, it's ridiculous. Yeah, a manager that won us the Club World Cup, won us the Conference League, we had some sort of identity the way we played.

We took a step forward, and we've gone five steps backwards. Liam has come in and he's won games, but there is absolutely something that is missing. Something is not quite right."

Sam Kerr celebrated 150 Chelsea appearance with a goal against Manchester United in the Women's FA Cup 💪

Chelsea FC Women today proudly celebrated a significant milestone as star striker Sam Kerr marked her 150th appearance for the club in style, scoring a crucial goal in a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Manchester United in the Women’s FA Cup fifth round.

The match, played at Kingsmeadow, served as a thrilling preview to the upcoming League Cup final between the two sides. Kerr, who had been presented with a commemorative shirt before kick-off to honor her achievement, entered the game as a second-half substitute and transformed the contest.

With Chelsea pushing for a breakthrough in a tightly contested encounter, Kerr struck in the 78th minute. Receiving a headed flick-on from Veerle Buurman’s nod across goal following Ellie Carpenter’s curling cross, the Australian international swept a low, composed finish across goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce and into the bottom corner. The goal, her ninth in 10 career appearances against Manchester United, gave Chelsea a vital lead and perfectly encapsulated Kerr’s enduring impact since joining the club in January 2020.

Though Manchester United equalized shortly after through Simi Awujo to force extra time, Naomi Girma’s extra-time winner secured Chelsea’s progression to the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Kerr’s milestone comes after overcoming a challenging 22-month absence due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained in January 2024. Her return to form has been evident, and this goal on her 150th outing underscored her status as one of the most prolific forwards in the women’s game.

Chelsea FC Head Coach Sonia Bompastor praised Kerr’s influence: “Sam is a special player and a huge part of what we do. To reach 150 appearances and score in such an important match against a top rival is testament to her quality, mentality, and dedication. Moments like this inspire the team and our fans.”

Kerr, who has contributed immensely to Chelsea’s trophy haul—including multiple Women’s Super League titles, FA Cups, and Continental Cups—expressed her delight post-match: “150 games for this incredible club means so much to me. Scoring today in front of our supporters was the perfect way to celebrate. We’re building something special here, and I’m proud to be part of it.”

Chelsea now look ahead to the FA Cup quarter-finals and their League Cup final against Manchester United on March 15, where Kerr’s experience and goal-scoring prowess will be key once again.

Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen speaking on Jorrel Hato

🗣️: “It is a disappointing move for Jorrel Hato because he was absolutely outstanding for Ajax at the time,” Meulensteen said, via Metro.

“He was very, very young and was the captain, which says a lot about the trust the manager put in him in terms of his personality and his leadership qualities.

“Then a club like Chelsea comes in because they want to pick up all the best players here, there, and everywhere. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they fit in with the way the team wants to play. He’s been one of the guys who hasn’t really settled.

“Yes, he can get a big paycheck and a lot of money in the bank, but young players should be playing. Nobody can guarantee success for players wherever they go, but you want to get a sense of the manager’s plan and what he has planned for you.

“He is also versatile, he can play left-back, centre-back, or as a number six. He is technically very, very good.”

Jason Burt on Cole Palmer subs:

“I really did not like Cole Palmer's reaction. I think that's got to stop you. Can do it once, but he's doing it every time he gets substituted.

Now, if I'm Rosenior, I'm saying to him, 'okay, fine, but look at yourself. You miss chances. I had to take somebody off. And it had to be you look at your own game as well.”

[@SkySportsNews]

Cole Palmer’s first season will always be the standard in the eyes of our fans.

Cole Palmer’s first season will always be the standard in the eyes of our fans. But everything aligned for him and he was mostly unknown to defenders.

Thinking that level will be the norm is just fantasy. He's getting more attention and pressure that comes with expection to deliver.

It's very different and more difficult for him now. It's the same for other top youngsters, Yamal, Doue, Nico Williams. They have to do extra to keep up their best level.

In terms of missing chances. Every goalscorer misses big chances. The more chances you get to score, the more chances of missing. If you look at stats, the players that miss most big chances are usually the same that top the scoring chart.

I won't read much into the misses. Cole Palmer is a top finisher. He plays spontaneously. They look great when they come off and poor when they don't. He's still somehow lacking rhythm and sharpness which is getting better though.

I won't change a thing about him. He's a great player. If you think otherwise, mold your own in the lab, let's see. 😉

João Pedro Breaks another record

📊João Pedro is the fourth Brazilian to reach 10+ goals for a second successive season in Premier League history.

A feat other Brazilians who played for Chelsea never achieved including playing for other EPL clubs.

BREAKING: Chelsea statement on Wesley Fofana receiving racial abuse:

"Chelsea Football Club is appalled and disgusted by vile online racist abuse directed at Wesley Fofana.

The targeted racist abuse Wes has been subjected to following today’s Premier League fixture against Burnley is abhorrent and will not be tolerated.

Such behaviour is completely unacceptable and runs counter to the values of the game and everything we stand for as a club. There is no room for racism.

We stand unequivocally with Wes. He has our full support, as do all our players who are too often forced to endure this hatred simply for doing their job. We will work with the relevant authorities and platforms in identifying the perpetrators and take the strongest possible action."

Things most Chelsea fans STILL don’t know about Mamadou Sarr

1. He’s only 20 but already an AFCON winner! 🏆 Lifted the Africa Cup of Nations trophy with Senegal recently—early silverware experience.

2. Nicknamed ‘Junior Van Dijk’ at Lyon for his composure, height (6ft 4in) and ball-playing ability. Many see him as a future world-class centre-back.

3. Became vice-captain at Strasbourg at just 19—extra responsibility that matured him quickly. Prefers leading by example over vocal leadership.

4. Born in Martigues, southern France, but represents Senegal internationally. His dad was a professional footballer, so football runs in the family.

5. Signed an eight-year deal with Chelsea in summer 2025—shows huge long-term faith from the club. Debuted in the Club World Cup (which we won!), then loaned back to Strasbourg before being recalled.

6. Made his full Chelsea debut in the FA Cup against Hull—helped keep a clean sheet in a 4-0 win. The intensity (long balls, physical) challenged him, but he was thrilled to start for the Blues.

Liam Rosenior giving a clear message on racism in football

🗣️ "When you see a player upset how Vinicius Junior was upset, normally they’re upset for a reason.

I've been racially abused myself.  What people have to understand is that when you are judged for something you should be proud of, it is the worst feeling you can ever possibly imagine. There are historical things to racism.

I need to, as the manager of this club, make my statement on it. If any coach, player or manager is ever found guilty of racism, they shouldn't be in the game."

LIAM ROSENIOR EXPRESSES HOPE FOR LEVI COLWILL'S RETURN THIS SEASON AMID ONGOING RECOVERY

LIAM ROSENIOR EXPRESSES HOPE FOR LEVI COLWILL'S RETURN THIS SEASON AMID ONGOING RECOVERY

**Chelsea Head Coach Liam Rosenior has provided an encouraging update on defender Levi Colwill's rehabilitation from a serious knee injury, stating he remains hopeful the England international could feature again before the end of the 2025/26 campaign.**

Colwill, 22, has been sidelined since suffering an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) rupture during pre-season in August 2025, raising initial doubts about his participation this term. However, recent progress has seen the centre-back return to light training on the pitch at Cobham, including running exercises, as part of a carefully managed recovery program.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea's upcoming fixtures, Rosenior addressed Colwill's status: "I'm hopeful. I'm hopeful because he's an outstanding player. Again, no time frames. You have to take these long-term injuries day by day. And also, it's not about when he comes back, it's about him staying fit when he is back." He added, "It’s step by step, and I don’t want to make promises that I can’t keep. At the moment, Levi is in a really good place. He’s on the right track, but I don’t want to put pressure on him. It's been brilliant to see him back on the pitch running. He is itching to get back, but we need to make sure he feels 100 per cent perfect."

Rosenior emphasized the club's cautious approach, prioritizing Colwill's long-term health over a rushed return. "He's really good. What a professional. He's working so hard," the coach noted, highlighting the defender's dedication.

Colwill's potential comeback would provide a significant boost to Chelsea's defensive options as they compete in the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and domestic cups. The academy graduate, who has earned caps for England, is seen as a cornerstone of the squad's future.

The club will continue to monitor Colwill's progress closely, with no specific return date announced at this time. Further updates will be provided as developments occur.

ESTEVÃO WILLAN SHARES CANDID INSIGHTS ON ADAPTING TO LIFE IN ENGLAND

Chelsea's young Brazilian star Estêvão Willian has opened up about his transition to life in west London, revealing that the English weather has posed his toughest challenge since joining the club.**

The 18-year-old winger, who arrived from Palmeiras in the summer of 2025 in a deal worth up to £51 million, has been making waves on the pitch with his dazzling skills and maturity beyond his years. However, in an exclusive interview with Chelsea FC, Estêvão highlighted the stark contrast between his native Brazil and the UK climate as a key adjustment.

"The hardest challenge at Chelsea has been the weather! I even saw snow for the first time recently," Estêvão said. "The sun and heat are standard almost all year in Brazil, but even when it’s cold there, it’s nothing like the temperatures here! The winter has been cold, but even though it’s very different from Brazil, I’m getting used to it. My family have been very important over this time. Over Christmas, for example, I was with them, and it was great because we were together."

Despite the frosty conditions, Estêvão has embraced the change and credits the club's support system for helping him settle. The teenager, nicknamed 'Messinho' for his stylistic similarities to Lionel Messi, has already featured in several first-team matches this season, contributing goals and assists as Chelsea push for silverware across multiple competitions.

Head Coach [Current Head Coach] praised Estêvão's resilience: "He's a special talent, and adapting to a new country at such a young age isn't easy. The weather might be a shock, but his attitude and work ethic are warming up the training ground."

Chelsea remains committed to supporting its international players through cultural and environmental transitions, ensuring they thrive both on and off the pitch.

CHELSEA FC EMPHASISES INTERNAL TALENT DEVELOPMENT AND SALARY STRATEGY AHEAD OF SUMMER 2026 TRANSFER WINDOW

Chelsea Football Club today outlined its strategic priorities for the upcoming summer transfer period, underscoring that decisions on elevating players within the club's salary structure will take precedence over external acquisitions.**

As the 2025/26 season progresses, Chelsea remains committed to building a sustainable, high-performing squad through a balanced approach that rewards proven performers and integrates emerging talent. With the club's estimated annual wage bill standing at £147,108,000 for the current season, maintaining a disciplined three-tier salary framework—elite earners above £10 million, core contributors between £5-10 million, and developing players below £5 million—is central to long-term success.

"This summer, the decisions over which players to bump up the salary structure will be even more important at Chelsea than the decisions over which players to bring in," a club source stated, highlighting the focus on contract extensions and upgrades for key squad members. All player contracts are handled on a case-by-case basis, with the club determined to avoid renegotiations that disrupt the established policy.

Notable discussions are already underway, including formal talks for a new long-term contract with defender Marc Cucurella, whose performances have solidified his role in the first team. Top earners such as Reece James (£15 million), Wesley Fofana, Enzo Fernández, and Cucurella exemplify the elite tier, while the strategy aims to promote deserving players into higher brackets to foster loyalty and continuity.

While Chelsea has secured winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP for £40 million, set to join next season, and continues to evaluate options for a new centre-back, midfielder, and attacker, the emphasis remains on internal growth. Recent departures, including the release of Raheem Sterling and the return of Jadon Sancho to Manchester United, have streamlined the squad and payroll, creating space for strategic investments.

Head Coach [Current Coach] commented: "Our squad is evolving, and rewarding those who have delivered on the pitch is vital to our culture. We're not just building for now—we're building for sustained excellence."

Chelsea will provide further updates as the summer window approaches, with a focus on compliance with Premier League and UEFA financial regulations, including the recent €31 million fine for breaching squad cost rules.

ROMEO LAVIA NEARS FIRST-TEAM RETURN AFTER SUCCESSFUL UNDER-21 COMEBACK

Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia has taken a major step towards his long-awaited first-team return, completing 45 minutes for the Under-21s in a 2-2 Premier League 2 draw against Leeds United at Cobham this afternoon.**

The 22-year-old Belgian international made his first competitive appearance in more than three months after suffering a thigh injury just eight minutes into Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League match away to Qarabag on 5 November 2025.

Lavia started in midfield alongside Harrison McMahon and Reggie Walsh in a 4-3-3 formation and delivered a composed, assured performance, bringing control and quality to the centre of the pitch. He was withdrawn at half-time as part of Chelsea’s careful management of his recovery, having helped the young Blues lead 2-0 before Leeds fought back for a share of the spoils.

Head Coach Liam Rosenior and several first-team players, including Levi Colwill, Liam Delap, Cole Palmer and Tosin Adarabioyo, were among those watching from the sidelines as Lavia continued his rehabilitation.

Rosenior has been overseeing a detailed, individualised plan for the midfielder, who returned to first-team training over the past fortnight. The club is taking a cautious approach to ensure Lavia returns “for good” and avoids any further setbacks.

Speaking on the process, Rosenior emphasised the importance of patience: “We have a really detailed plan for him so that when he returns, he returns for good.”

Lavia’s return will be a significant boost for the Chelsea squad as they enter the business end of the 2025/26 season. The highly-rated defensive midfielder, signed from Southampton in August 2023, has shown his immense quality in limited appearances and remains a key part of the club’s long-term vision.

Chelsea will continue to monitor Lavia’s progress closely in the coming days as he builds towards full first-team integration. No specific return date has been set.

The Brazilian international, who joined the Blues from Brighton & Hove Albion in July 2025, has quickly become a key figure in the team's attacking lineup, contributing not only goals but also creativity and energy on the pitch.

In just 26 appearances (including 4 as a substitute), João Pedro has netted 10 goals and provided 4 assists, showcasing his clinical finishing and versatility. His impressive form has seen him outperform other summer signings in the league, highlighting the impact of his £50 million transfer to Stamford Bridge. Pedro's latest goal came in Chelsea's recent victory, underscoring his growing influence as the team pushes for top honors in the Premier League and European competitions.

Chelsea Head Coach [Current Coach Name] commented: "João has been exceptional since day one. His ability to find the back of the net and create opportunities for his teammates is exactly what we needed. Reaching 10 goals so early in the season is a testament to his hard work and talent. We're excited to see what more he can achieve."

João Pedro himself expressed his delight: "Scoring 10 goals in the Premier League for a club like Chelsea is a dream come true. The support from the fans and my teammates has been incredible. I'm focused on helping the team win trophies and continuing to improve every match."

With 115 career Premier League appearances and a total of 32 goals across his time in England, the 24-year-old forward continues to build on his reputation as one of Brazil's brightest talents. He has also earned 6 caps for the Brazil national team, scoring 3 goals on the international stage.

I don't know if it's a bit of an act, to sort of play to be the big manager, but if you remember when Graham Potter was there... it never felt like the right fit. It never felt like he had the personality or the strength to manage a club like that.

I was wondering if it would be almost the same. You know when you just look at someone and it doesn't look right. Whether it's an act or it's his own self belief, it doesn't feel like I'm looking at this guy who is weak - we don't know if he's good enough yet. We'll see over the years."
