Despite their precarious position, Josh Acheampong has cropped up on their radar as a potential transfer target.
Journalist Christian Falk has claimed that Spurs are one of three Premier League sides considering a move for Acheampong, who is reportedly not a huge fan of his current situation at Stamford Bridge.
He said to Bayern Insider: “Yes, we still have three rumours that we haven’t been able to fully verify yet, so it’s neither clearly true nor clearly not true, but we still want to talk about them. One of them is Josh Acheampong from Chelsea’s youth setup. He keeps being linked to Bayern, and you could say he’s an interesting player.
“Clubs like Newcastle, Tottenham, and West Ham are all said to have interest. He’s not entirely satisfied at Chelsea, isn’t getting much playing time, and could be an option for Bayern. And they are indeed looking at that position.”
Even if Spurs stay up, the likelihood is a deal would not be reached between the two sides. Only five transfer fees have been paid directly between the two clubs, and none since 2001
The youngster will have been confident of more minutes under Liam Rosenior than he did under Enzo Maresca, even though the Italian described him as ‘incredible’.
Despite a strong start, starts have been few and far between of late, even during an injury crisis at the back.
Rosenior preferred Mamadou Sarr to the Cobham graduate against PSG in the Champions League, surely putting questions into the youngster’s mind about his future.
Chelsea are adamant they don’t want to let him go, but they will need to start proving that on the pitch soon to avoid a potentially embarrassing sale.
