Romeo Lavia Injury Update: Chelsea Midfielder Out for at Least One Month

Chelsea Football Club has provided an update on midfielder Romeo Lavia, confirming that the 21-year-old has sustained a quadriceps injury and is expected to be sidelined for at least one month. The injury occurred during Chelsea's 2-2 UEFA Champions League draw with Qarabag, where Lavia was substituted just six minutes into the match.

Lavia, who transferred to Chelsea from Southampton in a £53 million deal in August 2023, has faced ongoing fitness challenges, including hamstring and thigh issues, resulting in him missing 88 games over 568 days since joining the club. Despite limited appearances this season—seven in total—the club has been managing his minutes carefully, restricting him to one game per week.

During this period, Lavia is anticipated to miss at least six fixtures, including Premier League matches against Burnley, Arsenal, Leeds United, and Bournemouth, as well as Champions League encounters with Barcelona and Atalanta. A potential return could be targeted for the home game against Everton on December 13, subject to his recovery progress.

Chelsea's medical team is closely monitoring Lavia's rehabilitation, with further assessments to determine the exact timeline for his return. The club remains supportive of the Belgian international and committed to his long-term fitness.

Chelsea currently holds third place in the Premier League and will rely on squad depth to navigate this absence.

The club wishes Romeo a swift recovery and will issue additional updates as needed.
