Chelsea Women Extend Unbeaten Run to Record 34 Matches in Hard-Fought Draw at Liverpool

 Chelsea Football Club Women made history in the Barclays Women's Super League by extending their unbeaten streak to a record 34 matches, surpassing their previous milestone, following a 1-1 draw against Liverpool Women at Totally Wicked Stadium on Sunday, November 16.

The Blues took an early lead in the ninth minute when Alyssa Thompson showcased her skill, cutting inside from the left flank and curling a stunning effort into the top right corner. However, Liverpool equalized in the 33rd minute through Beata Olsson, who capitalized on a through ball from Lily Woodham, outpacing the defense and slotting home from close range.

In the second half, head coach Sonia Bompastor introduced substitutes Aggie Beever-Jones and Lauren James—the latter making her first WSL appearance since March—in a bid to reclaim the lead. Beever-Jones came close with a goal ruled out for offside after rounding goalkeeper Faye Kirby, and another effort that whistled just wide. Despite dominating possession and creating chances, Chelsea were unable to find a winner against a resilient Liverpool side.

Captain Millie Bright also achieved a personal milestone, becoming the WSL's all-time appearance leader with her 211th game. The result leaves Chelsea three points behind league leaders Manchester City, as the team continues its pursuit of a sixth consecutive WSL title.

"The performance was not good enough from us today, and that's not the standard we set for ourselves," said head coach Sonia Bompastor. "We didn't defend well enough on their goal and weren't clinical in front of ours. That said, extending our unbeaten run to 34 matches is a testament to the squad's resilience and consistency. We'll learn from this and come back stronger."

Millie Bright added: "I'm disappointed with the result and our performance right now, so it's tough to reflect on the personal achievement just yet. But it's always team first, and this group has shown incredible spirit to keep the unbeaten streak alive."

Chelsea Women return to action on Thursday, November 20, in the UEFA Women's Champions League, followed by domestic fixtures as they aim to maintain momentum in a busy schedule.
