He stated: "Now there are a few months left until the season ends. Real Madrid? The truth is that there is nothing, zero talks. Now we are focused on Chelsea, on what remains of the last games. After the World Cup, we will see."

The Blues hierarchy had initially aimed to secure the player's long-term commitment following their Club World Cup triumph last summer.  Former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has sharply criticised the club's American owners for treating the team purely as a business. Amidst defensive struggles and four consecutive defeats, Petit warns that new manager Liam Rosenior may not see out the rest of the season, demanding an immediate change to salvage their fading Champions League qualification hopes.

The mood at Stamford Bridge is darkening following a dismal run of four consecutive defeats. Since taking charge in January following the dismissal of Enzo Maresca, Rosenior has overseen 19 matches, but his honeymoon period is well and truly over. Recent heavy losses include a 5-2 away defeat and a 3-0 home loss to Paris Saint-Germain, which saw them crash out of the Champions League in the round of 16. Following the weekend's 3-0 Premier League defeat at the hands of Everton, they sit sixth in the table on 48 points. They are now six points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa, severely complicating their European qualification chances.

According to Petit, the main issue plaguing the London side is their fragile backline, as he told BetGoat: "The main trouble at Chelsea is probably the defence. They have many, many issues, but the main problem is the defence. They concede too many goals. They have lost too many games at home and are probably one of the most average teams at home in the Premier League. I think they are 12th or 13th in the table at home."

Replacing Maresca has proven difficult, with the Frenchman adding: "I think the dimension of Strasbourg fit perfectly with Rosenior. Giving him the responsibility of such a huge club like Chelsea is a huge step, especially after taking charge after Enzo Maresca left the club."

The former midfielder directed fierce criticism toward the club hierarchy, suggesting they prioritise commercial interests over sporting triumphs. Delivering a scathing assessment, Petit declared: "I have no idea if he's going to stay at the end of the season, but to be honest with you, something has to change. I think the American owners must understand that we respect, and I have huge respect for those who put the money on the table, but in the end, don't put your nose in matters that you don't understand."

He insisted that treating football strictly as a business is alienating supporters. "Football is a serious matter for so many people, and you are trying to make business all the time, which means the Chelsea fans are tired of it. They don't want business at the club, they want success."

This lack of direction is seemingly taking a psychological toll on a mentally exhausted squad. Petit questioned the overarching strategy, asking: "Starting from the start of the season, what is the vision in terms of sport as well, with the manager? What is the vision? How are we going to play?"

This was brutally exposed against PSG. Petit was baffled by the managerial decisions, stating: "When you look at Rosenior against PSG and they played three at the back, come on. Have you seen against which team you're playing? Who are the strikers at Paris Saint-Germain? Those guys, they kill you. One against one, they kill you. And you play three at the back? Really?"

Chelsea's stance on sacking beleaguered Liam Rosenior revealed

 Rosenior was only handed the managerial reins in west London on January 8. He was appointed as successor to Enzo Maresca - who had overseen Conference League and Club World Cup triumphs during his tenure.

Chelsea turned to a manager who boasts no experience of coaching in the English top flight, with an element of risk involved when luring ex-Derby and Hull City boss Rosenior away from French sister club Strasbourg.

Chelsea’s stance on sacking beleaguered boss Liam Rosenior has been revealed, with the Blues enduring a dismal run of four consecutive defeats across Premier League and Champions League competition. Dreams of European glory have been dashed for another year, with Rosenior under pressure to ensure that elite continental action returns to Stamford Bridge in 2026-27.

The 41-year-old is considered to be a forward-thinking and adaptable tactician, as he introduces methods that can raise the odd eyebrow, but knows that he will ultimately be judged on results. Chelsea remain in the hunt for FA Cup glory having reached the quarter-final stage of that competition. They did, however, suffer Carabao Cup semi-final heartache against Arsenal and crashed out of the Champions League courtesy of a heavy 8-2 aggregate defeat to reigning kings of Europe, Paris Saint-Germain.

The Blues have failed to find the target in their last three fixtures, having drawn a blank against Newcastle, PSG and Everton. A 3-0 reversal at Hill Dickinson Stadium last time out led to boos ringing out from the away end.

Inevitable questions are being asked of how long Rosenior will be given to get things right, with Chelsea having never been afraid to make changes in their dugout. They are under scrutiny this season after tinkering with their starting XI on a weekly basis and being outrun by every opponent that they have faced in the Premier League.

Rosenior is not, however, considered to be under immediate threat of losing his job. Fabrizio Romano has said, in an update on his YouTube channel: “The message I have from Chelsea is there's no imminent change on Liam Rosenior, and they still support him. This isn't a squad built for him, so there are some points to remember when it's time to judge him. They want to be in the Champions League next season.”

That is a stance backed up by BBC Sport, with Rosenior being tipped to see out a bid for a top-five finish and the right to grace the Champions League stage next season. They state that: “Qualification for the competition is the single biggest way for a major club to boost its bottom line. TV income, prize money and matchday revenue are far greater than those generated in the Europa League or Conference League.

“It is especially important for Chelsea, who still lack a long‑term front‑of‑shirt sponsor and whose stadium, Stamford Bridge, lags behind the bigger and more modern grounds used by many of their league rivals.

“It's for all these reasons that before the season, the primary club target for former boss Maresca was to qualify for next season's Champions League. And for Rosenior, who was expected to bring stability, that is the continued expectation.”

Rosenior has been around the game long enough to know that it is advisable to turn blind eyes and deaf ears to any rumours. He told Match of the Day after witnessing an abject performance at Everton: “I don't focus on the noise. I know the reality of where I'm at and where we are at as a club and what we can achieve, which is still some amazing things. It's been a really testing period for these lads. We've had a lot of setbacks and we have to dust ourselves down and make sure we come back fighting.”

He went on to tell BBC Radio 5 Live: “What I need to do better is make better decisions in terms of team selections, how we freshen up the team and rotate the team to make sure we are competitive in these games. Having the international break has probably come at a perfect time for us to gather and restock. We also have some clear weeks to get on the training pitch to work on what we want.”

With domestic action shutting down, Chelsea will not take to the field again until playing host to League One strugglers Port Vale in the FA Cup quarter-finals on April 4. Sitting sixth in the table, they have seven Premier League fixtures left to take in this term.

Chappell Roan responds to ex-Chelsea star Jorginho's accusations over 'completely disproportionate' treatment of his stepdaughter

Pop sensation Chappell Roan has responded to accusations from former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Jorginho that disrespectful treatment on her part left the ex-Italy international’s stepdaughter in tears. Jorginho is now on the books of Flamengo in Brazil and has called out Roan’s security team for their heavy-handed approach to dealing with fans.

Jorginho is stepfather to 11-year-old Ada - whose father is Hollywood actor Jude Law. He married Catherine Harding - a former flame of 'Alfie' and 'The Holiday' star Law - in 2025. They have a son, Jax, together.

The 34-year-old is a household name in his own right, as a European Championship and Champions League winner, and is accustomed to the demands of being a celebrity. He has been left less than impressed by ‘Pink Pony Club’ singer Roan.

Having crossed paths with the 28-year-old in Sao Paulo, Jorginho took to Instagram in order to make the world aware of how a supposed role model to millions around the world has taken to treating young fans.

He posted: “I went through a very upsetting situation with my family earlier today. My wife is in Sao Paulo for Lollapalooza Brasil. This morning, my daughter woke up incredibly excited. She even made a sign because she was so happy to see an artist she really admires, or used to admire.

“She simply walked past the singer's table, looked to confirm it was her, smiled, and went back to sit with her mum. She didn't say anything, didn't ask for anything.”

He added how a “large security guard” subsequently “came over to their table while they were still having breakfast and began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner to both my wife and my daughter, saying that she shouldn't allow my daughter to 'disrespect' or 'harass' other people.

“He even said he would file a complaint against them with the hotel, while my 11-year-old daughter was sitting there in tears. My daughter was extremely shaken and cried a lot.”

Grammy Award winner Roan has now reacted to the comments from Jorginho, with lively debate being sparked on social media regarding her behaviour and how famous faces should treat starry-eyed supporters.

She claims to have been completely unaware of the incident in question, with no requests being made on her part when it comes to security officials. She was not bothered by anybody while in Brazil and claims that any staff members that approached Jorginho’s family were not ordered to do so by her.

In her own social post, released via Instagram Stories, Roan said: “I did not ask the security guard to go up to this mother and child. They didn't come up to me. They weren't doing anything. It's unfair for security to just assume someone doesn't have good intentions, when they don't have reason to believe, because there's no action even taken.”

Jorginho, who helped Flamengo to Copa Libertadores glory in 2025, is under contract in his current surroundings until the summer of 2028. Despite earning 57 international caps for Italy, the classy midfielder was born in the southern Brazilian town of Imbituba.

Chelsea have already turned down a €50 million offer from Inter Millan for Andrey Santos

 Inter are looking to the future with a clear vision, including when it comes to the transfer market. The summer overhaul is set to take place and, barring any surprises, will also lead to a small but significant change to the tactical system that has defined the last seven years: the 3-5-2. The Nerazzurri club’s plan is to alter the tactical setup by introducing a more physical midfield and adding quality and unpredictability to the attacking midfield.

It is also, and above all, in this context, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, that the ongoing interest in and appreciation for Andrey Santos, the Chelsea midfielder, should be noted.

CONTACTS ALREADY ENTERED

In the recent past (and also during the summer of 2025), Inter have met on several occasions with Giuliano Bertolucci and Kia Joorabchian, agents and intermediaries close to the representatives of the 2004-born player who came through the ranks at Vasco da Gama.

Nothing came of it because Chelsea, who had brought him back from Strasbourg, considered him a potential first-team player.

CHELSEA SAY NO TO 50 MILLION, BUT...

At the time, the figures involved in a potential deal were considered so far above market value that, as revealed by Romano, Chelsea even went so far as to reject a €50 million offer from Saudi Arabia.

Since then, however, the Blues’ strategy regarding the youngster has changed to such an extent that he has started only 13 matches across the Premier League and Champions League.

Inter are keen on him, but the situation at Chelsea is no longer so clear-cut and, as a result, he could once again be considered a potential signing for the Nerazzurri this summer, provided the right conditions are met.  Chelsea legend Joe Cole has called on the Blues to complete a sensational cross-London raid for Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven. The former England international believes the Dutch centre-back is the perfect solution to the defensive frailties currently plaguing Liam Rosenior's side and would be a perfect fit for his former club in the summer transfer window.

Cole identifies defensive solution

Cole feels Van de Ven is the man to fix Chelsea's defensive woes. The 24-year-old has been a rare bright spark in an otherwise dismal period for Tottenham, who find themselves embroiled in a relegation battle.

With speculation mounting that the defender is looking for a way out of north London, Cole believes the Blues should act quickly.

Liam Rosenior reveals who he holds responsible for their most recent defeat while Everton mock Chelsea’s boss

Liam Rosenior has indicated he needs to make changes to his Chelsea starting XI after another string of errors against Everton.

In similar fashion to their 1-0 defeat against Newcastle United last week, the Blues were undone by a simple ball through the middle in their 3-0 loss.

Beto was on hand to chip the ball past Robert Sanchez, and later hit a powerful strike that sneaked under the goalkeeper for his second.

Iliman Ndiaye then scored an excellent curling strike for the third goal after Chelsea lost an aerial battle from a goal kick on 76 minutes.

It was their fourth consecutive defeat across all competitions in what has been a nightmare couple of weeks at Stamford Bridge.

Rosenior, who talkSPORT's Rory Jennings believes should be sacked, is facing increased pressure just two months after joining the club.

Rose-tinted view

Speaking to talkSPORT after the match, he acknowledged the errors that his side made and vowed to work on eradicating them.

He said: "I take responsibility. I need to pick a team of players in moments that don't make the costly errors that we're making, and I also need to help the team do that.

"We'll sit down and analyse how we go about games. We changed the system a little bit, we weren't so aggressive in our press, I think it actually worked quite well, we had control of the game.

"In the moment of the first goal, we looked like the team more likely to score. That's happened too many times, and that's something that needs to change."

Chelsea are now off for the March international break, and will return on April 4 to face Port Vale in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Rosenior believes the players heading on duty for their countries will be able to take their minds of the club's form in the next two weeks

 He remarked: "I think for them, maybe a change is as good as a rest, to get away with their international teams and come back mentally refreshed and refocused may help them.

"And it also gives me and my staff time as well. We've played, I think, 20 games in ten weeks, something like that, I don't know the exact number.

"But now we have a real, clear amount of time to analyse things, talk and make sure we come back stronger in the run-in."

Everton rub it in

Whilst Chelsea and their continued poor run of form makes the headlines, Everton have taken a huge step towards European football.

They are only two points adrift off sixth, which would see them reach the Conference League play-off round.

Soon after full-time, they made a cheeky dig towards Chelsea with an image of Jake O'Brien holding the ball posted on social media.
